Real Madrid winger Eden Hazard is winning his race to be fit for a
reunion with former club Chelsea in the Champions League semi-
finals.
The Belgian joined the La Liga giants in 2019 for a fee of around
£100m after seven trophy-laden years at Stamford Bridge.
But Hazard’s struggled with injuries since moving to the Bernabeu
and he’s made just 14 appearances in all competitions this term.
Madrid booked a clash against Chelsea in the semi-finals with a
3-1 aggregate win over Liverpool earlier this week, handing Hazard
the opportunity to return to west London for the first time since his
departure.
However, many Blues feared they’d be denied a reunion with their
former hero given his injury problems.
But Zidane has revealed that Hazard is back in contention for
tonight’s clash against Getafe, which would give him plenty of time
to build his fitness up for the tie against Chelsea.
‘He is feeling very better and he is ready,’ said Zidane.
He wants to be back more than anyone else. ‘We have been more
cautious with [Dani] Carvajal and Hazard, because they are
relapses.
They are both better and that is good for the team.’
Chelsea continue their bid for a top four finish by hosting Brighton
on Tuesday.
The Blues booked their spot in the FA Cup final with a 2-0 win
against Manchester City on Saturday, with Thomas Tuchel’s men
set to face either Leicester City or Southampton next month.
Chelsea travel to West Ham just 72 hours before their first leg
clash at the Bernabeu, before taking on rivals Fulham at Stamford
Bridge before the second leg.
