The 2020/21 Premier League campaign is not over yet , but
predictions for next season’s title challengers are already being
made.
For Chelsea, they have been tipped by Manchester United legend
Rio Ferdinand to be the next champions of England after praising
their upturn in form since the appointment of Thomas Tuchel as
head coach in January.
“Have you seen Chelsea’s stats? They’re my team to win the
league next year,” Ferdinand explained on his Vibe With Five
podcast.
“Since Tuchel ’s come they’re top of almost every category: goals
conceded, chances created. What he’s done going in there
deserves nothing but applause.”
Meanwhile, former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher also
believes the west London outfit will be in contention to win the
Premier League title next season.
“Oh yeah, I really do think so,” he said on Sky Sports’ Monday Night
Football show.
It’s looked for the last couple of seasons that no-one could really
match City at certain times, Liverpool have for a couple of years,
but I think we’ve got now maybe two or three other teams besides
Liverpool who could really match Manchester City.”
So that is two former footballers that are tipping Chelsea to have a
strong 2021/22 campaign.
However, Man United hero Lee Sharpe doesn’t share the same
opinion as Ferdinand and Carragher as he believes the Blues don’t
have the firepower to challenge the likes of Man City and Liverpool.
Although, he does think a top-four spot is more or less guaranteed.
“Chelsea will be up there, whether they’ve got enough to challenge
for the title, I certainly think they’ll upset a couple of the big teams
along the way,” Sharpe told Gentingbet.
“Like I say, it’s hard to look past City again for next season’s title at
the moment the way they performed this season.
“I think you’re going to have Man City, Liverpool are going to come
back stronger again next season, Man United, Chelsea – I think
that’s going to be the top four next season, and I don’t think the
points difference between top and second, and third and fourth, will
be as big this season.
“I’m not sure Chelsea have the firepower to actually challenge a
City or a United, if you like, and get on the front foot.
“But I certainly think they’ll be comfortable top four placed next
season.”
